Today’s challenge: If you chose to live anywhere in the world, where would that be and why?
I have dreamed of travelling and living abroad since I was little and asked my parents to enroll me for English lessons. My teacher had lived in the USA and I was enchanted by her pictures and stories.
As an English graduate, of course I wanted to live in and experience the culture of an English speaking country. When the right circumstances and opportunity aligned, I went to New Jersey and worked as an Au Pair for 18 months.
Knowing I could travel much more, I couldn’t sit home for long – I came to Belgium and worked as an Au Pair for a year.
I literally lived my dreams of living abroad and seeing the world.
The more I travel the more certain I am that:
Up until now I have lived in three different places: Brazil, USA and Belgium.
Why have I chosen to stay in Belgium? Same silly answer I give since the first day I knew I was coming here: “Belgium chose me.”
After my Au Pair year ended I went back home for 8 months and maintained a long-distance relationship. After some time we naturally decided that I would come back and we would start a life together.
Today we are in the middle of a bureaucratic turmoil and it really sucks. However, I take it as the perfect opportunity to learn patience, trust and courage. Since I’m not allowed to work and I’m not the kind of person who’ll sit on the couch all day watching TV, I’ve been learning about ways to make a living online and to be location independent. I don’t want to depend on finding a job in these hard times (especially as a foreigner) even thought I might have to while I figure things out.
From all the places in the world I chose to live in Belgium – with its multiple official languages, its grey rainy days and its long winters but also with its beautiful nature, ancient history, delicious food (and beers!) and my love, with whom I plan to build a family AND travel the world bit by bit.
Actually it doesn’t matter where, my ideal home is where I have love, peace and quiet, friends and fun, beauty, inspiration and where I can share my gifts.
If you could live anywhere, where would that be?

The more I travel the more certain I am that:
- The world is beautiful and we should see as much of it as possible.
- Travelling is not a luxury and never a waste of money or time.
- Living your dreams is completely possible.
