I am a foreigner. I grew up in a small town in Brazil and, like many small town girls, I wanted to leave. I knew there was more. I knew I could do more. So I learned English. I lived in the USA for a while and now I call Belgium my home.
That small town girl never imagined living in such a diverse environment. A place where you get by in different languages; a place that teaches you to be more tolerant, open-minded and resilient.
I am a teacher. My work makes a difference in people’s lives. It challenges and inspires me everyday. Among all the language aspects I teach, the way children learn to read fascinates me the most. It’s almost magical to see it happen.
I am a mom. My daughter has been teaching and changing me everyday. Our parenting adventure is made more exciting (and challenging) by the variety of languages we speak at home.
Books have always been a huge part of my life. I believe that learning to read and write well is not only the key to academic success but to self-confidence and joy. I’m here to help parents support their children’s literacy skills at home, to nurture a bond with their culture, their identity and their loved ones.
